Nicholas MacKay in St. Petersburg, Russia

Nicholas MacKay is a classically Russian trained ballet dancer who studied at both the prestigious Vaganova and Bolshoi Ballet Academies in Russia. He comes from a family of 4 classical ballet dancers, including sisters Maria Sascha Khan, Nadia Khan and his brother Julian MacKay. Moving from Montana to Moscow at the age of 9, MacKay is the youngest non-Russian to ever attend the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. While still a student, he performed with the Mariinsky, Bolshoi and Mikhailovsky Ballet Companies, toured Brussels and Berlin as a professional dancer in The Nutcracker, and was featured in the original cast of the Bolshoi Ballet World Premiere of Moidodyr, by Yuri Smekalov.

MacKay loves to give his knowledge to others, and works also as a ballet teacher and coach, most recently in Bali and Jakarta, Indonesia, and Bozeman, Montana, for “Ballet Legacy Master Classes”.

His favorite dance role is that of Russian painter and philosopher Nicholas Roerich, which he is cast to perform in the full length ballet “Warrior Of Light” Premiering in 2019. MacKay was also the assistant choreographer of the “Warrior of Light” excerpt performed in the London Coliseum in 2018.  WarriorOfLightBallet.com

At the young age of 15, Mackay’s talent as a photographer was launched into the world scene when, by personal  invitation of Sergei Polunin, his photos shot for “Project Polunin”, featuring Sergei Polunin  and Natalia Osipova, reached a worldwide audience. Continued success followed with photos for the Shanghai Russell James and Victoria's Secret show, Grishko Russia, with both video and photo commissions, photo shoots with Vladimir Vassiliev, the Vaganova Ballet Academy, Sobaka Magazine, Esquire China, TIMEOUT magazine, and as the official photographer for the Russian ballet stars tour to China with “Dance Open”.

Nicholas, along with his brother Julian, is fluent in the Russian language. His main inspirations are Greek and Roman mythology and artists such as Rembrandt, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and John Martin - famous for his depictions of godly destruction and Biblical landscapes.

Nicholas MacKay now travels the world photographing talented and inspiring people, and is always looking for a new adventure!
